We love to grow our own herbs and vegetables.... this year we tried to grow 3 different kinds of peppers. They did really well and were hot and spicy!!!!! And they also were nice objects to take photographs!!

Today just a couple of nature pictures from last week since I'm beat. I had my first day at the place where I do my internship.... I'm beat! I had forgotten what it is to be somewhere new and get all this information at once! I'm mentally just so tired and on the other hand I'm just so happy to do something new and challenging! I didn't realize that I had really missed the challenges and business of a retail store!
The first picture shows that even for the natural birds here it can be too hot! This hawk really didn't move that much and was just grasping for air!

Today we were going to hike in a nature park that I found online. Well .... since it rained a lot last week and this is a subtropical climate we did not count on one thing.... and no it's not because of all the mud, that would have been okay! NOOOOOOOOOO, musquitos and lots of them and really big ones. Even with musquito repellent on, they were attacking us the minute we came out of the car. At one time I had about 30 on my pants and only spraying the musquito repellent at them could give me some relief for about 2 minutes! They even followed the car for a while when we got back in! Terrible!! That's one thing I don't like about living in Texas! So now I have hardly any pictures.... can't concentrate on taking shots when you have to fight of all these musquitos and are itching from all the bites!! So only a few from the nature park.

The only good thing is that to get there we had to cross the Fred Hartman Bridge... which is a really nice example of lines! Pictures are all taken by my husband, since I was doing the driving!!

Last pictures from our trip to Houston.... this time animals and birds that we encountered!!
These squirls were not shy at all, they wanted food and were willing to risk everything. When they discovered we did not have any food..... they went on to the next victim!

This last photo is really not great but I love how you see the flying of the food!!
Then we saw different ducks.... some of them are more beautiful than others...

Remeber the dozen little duckies from my april 30st post..... they grew up and we saw about 20 of them. They are still cute!!

And the last ones were in the Japanese garden.

I still have some pictures to post from our trip to Houston.... here are some more landscape, or should I say "cityscape" pictures.....

St Paul's Methodist Church One of the buildings of the Museum of fine arts: the Caroline Wiess Law building
The pioneer memorial obelisk: dedicated to all the pioneer men and women of HoustonThe arch that holds the Sam Houston statue in Memorial Park

And yes... that's me "on top of the world"! LOL I'm standing under the statue of Sam Houston.

A couple more from the visit to the city! This Japanese garden is close to the musea.

I really love this type of garden.... it's simple yet beautiful!

Why is it that when I am off that it starts to rain!! This whole week was horrible (did manage to watch a lot of movies and read books!!), but we decided to go out today and visit the musea in Houston. On thursday a lot of these musea have free entrance so time to check this out. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures in most buildings (which one of the museum employees pointed out when I took a picture!LOL), so I only have the outside sculptures!!

This was a strange day weatherwise.... It started out with sunshine and then it rained the rest of the day. Ugh.... I finally have some time off and what happens, I can't even go out to take pictures because of the rain. Luckily I went out real early in the morning, so I at least can post some pictures of the sunrise.

Today I did something that brought me back in time. I played mandolin for about 12 years when I was in high school and college, but I did not play for a while now. I didn't even bring my mandolin to the USA. Guess my surprise when I saw that there was a State Mandolin Championship here. I went (did not play) and had a great time! Here are a couple of pictures of the band that played and some contestants.
Sorry for the bad quality, but this was more for my fun than for taking pictures!!
The band was called "Before Electricity" Those guys were crazy!!

The contestants.... and the first one was also the winner!

Today was my last day at work..... I'm leaving my job to do an internship to finally get my US pharmacist license. It was a day with mixed feelings, sad for leaving my coworkers and job, but also excited to start a new phase!!

Here some pictures of my as of today "old" work place!

No more taking the shuttle from the parking lot...

No more making creams in the old mixer:

Or in the new mixer!

No more drawing up syringes....

No more messing with chemicals under the hood!

No more prepacking:

And no more messing with this lock. It took me forever to learn how to open my locker! I had never seen this type of locks in the Netherlands, we would just have keys.

Next week I will take some vacation and then I'll start with my internship!
